The Jesus Army has been told to resubmit plans to stage a party during the summer after borough councillors refused their application.
Concern over the condition and over-use of parks in the town led members of the borough council's environment services committee to reject the music festival on Tuesday night.
But Northampton Borough Council says it will contact the Nether Heyford-based Christian sect and encourage them to supply them with more than three dates.
The Destiny event included bands, DJs and a portable baptism pool and was due to take place on either June 16, June 30 or July 14.
John Campbell, communications officer for the Jesus Army, told the Chronicle and Echo: 'We have staged events in the past which have been more Christian-orientated.
'This would be based around young people with the main focus on the music.'
