The former Cannon cinema in Northampton's town centre is in a very strategic position.

It sits on a busy main road at the top of Abington Street shopping precinct and at the key intersection with Wellingborough Road and York Road.

It's always difficult for organisations that buy buildings with listed status.

The fact is that repairs and modifications are considerably more expensive than on newer buildings and there is far more red tape to go through.

But the fact is that the cinema is in danger of becoming a major eyesore and it seems the Jesus Army, which purchased it more than two years ago, has found its original proposals too expensive to fulfil.

We sympathise with the predicament of the Jesus Army, but something has to be done soon.
