JESUS PEOPLE - NO CHANGE

Dear Sir,

The spokesman for the Jesus People denies that the sect was asked to leave the Evangelical Alliance, because they do not mix with Christians from other churches, and claims that membership qualifications have changed since the Jesus Fellowship joined.

But Gordon Landreth, the Gen Sec of the Evangelical Alliance at the time, said: 'The Alliances main concern had been over whether the group was completely exclusive, or whether it intended to have Christian fellowship with other religious groups and churches. They expressed an intention of having fellowship with other churches, and we saw no reason to doubt their good faith.'

Whether the Bugbrooke Fellowship resigned from the Evangelical Alliance or was asked to leave is unimportant - the fact remains that they were told that they no longer qualified for membership.
